1.1. Creating a PDF file

To convert a document into a PDF file, you will need to have the PDF Creator software loaded on your computer.  The full version of Adobe Acrobat will convert a document to PDF, but will need to be purchased by your Department.  PDF Creator is an open source application, which means it is available at no cost to your Department.  If you would like this software installed on your computer, please submit a computer problem.

  1. Create the document as normal (in Word, Excel, Open Office, etc.).
  2. When finished, click on File > Print.
  3. For the printer name, click on the down arrow and choose PDFCreator.
  4. Click on Ok.
  5. PDFCreator will bring up an additional screen.  Fill in the information and click on Save.
  6. The next screen will ask you where you want to save the PDF file.  Choose your folder and then click on Save.
  7. Your document is then converted to a PDF file.

2. Clearing Temporary Internet Files

2.1. Clearing browser cache

Temporary internet files, also referred to as the browser cache, are files that are stored on your computer by your internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox).  Temporary internet files contain web page content that is stored on your hard disk for quick viewing.  These files allow internet browsers to download only the content that has changed since you last viewed a web page, instead of downloading all the content for a page every time it is displayed.  The purpose of temporary internet files is to speed up the loading of websites that you visit frequently by keeping copies of the web pages and graphics on your computer.  Since the temporary internet files are stored on your hard drive, the amount of space these files use will increase over time.  Periodically deleting these files will help clear up unnecessary file storage on your hard disk.
